James Myers was born in La Canada, CA and attended Loyola High School with Nick. He attended Brown University in Providence, RI; where he received a Bachelors degree in Religious Studies. He also studied theatre and international relations. After his Fall semester of sophomore year, James took a leave of absence from school to live and work in Uganda, East Africa. There he managed a small orphanage of about 45 children and twelve full time staff. He also funded and managed the construction and opening of a small bed and breakfast to equip the orphanage with recurring income. He returned to Brown the following year where he was employed in food catering and graduated in 2006 to open Life Preserver with Nick Dazé.
