Shaken, not Destroyed

The magnitude 5.4 earthquake, that occurred in the late morning July 29th, reminded us all at Life Preserver just how important it is to get your precious memories digitized and tucked away safely and securely. The mild shake yesterday did not cause any damage to Life Preservers facilities and had a small physical impact on the Los Angeles area.

The USGS is predicting an enormous quake in the very near future. Geologists are predicting the magnitude of what they have nick-named the “Big One” to be in the high 7’s. Take into consideration all of those old family memories strewn about within your home. Would they survive a catostrophic disaster. Of coarse the last thing you want to worry about is your analog media in the event of an earthquake. We have a solution.

With Life Preservers services all of your analog media can be organized and digitally transferred. By taking the necessary step in digitization you are ensuring your family memories are preserved even through a natural disaster. Hard drive backup? No problem. DVD replication, its on the house.

Don’t think you need to lift a finger. We like to help our clients “worry about one less thing.” Schedule a free pickup today.

Island Archives Burn

Today’s Bangor (Maine) Daily News has the stunning news that the Swan’s Island Library in Maine has burned to the ground.

More than 100 years worth of history went up in flames along with an island institution early Thursday morning. Candis Joyce, the library’s director, said the library contained more than 10,000 books. Historical items included records from local quarries, weather data and ferry logs, she said.

“It just goes on and on and on,” Joyce said of the items lost in the fire. “We really need to get this back. It had become a community center.”

Maili Bailey said the building can be replaced, and island residents can go about putting together another historical collection, but that neither will ever compare to what was destroyed Thursday morning.

“People adored it,” Bailey said of the library. “It breaks our hearts.”

Life Preserver to Raise Funds for Alzheimer’s Research

Life Preserver + Alzheimer\'s Association

Envisioning a World without Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s Disease is a terrible affliction which more and more people are being diagnosed with each year.  At Life Preserver, we’ve had Alzheimer’s in our families, and we’ve had clients that have been diagnosed with it.  Nothing saddens us more than when a human being is robbed of their memory, for it is one of the few things that make a person who he or she is.

Life Preserver is committed to fighting Alzheimer’s Disease as part of our mission to make families better and stronger–to help them relive their lives.  We are 8 months into talks about formally partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association to provide long term financial aid to Alzheimer’s research and relief for families with this disease.  But that’s not what this email is about…

Announcing the LP Memory Drive
As a sign of good faith to the Alzheimer’s Association, and to our clients, we are today announcing the LP Memory Drive.  Between today and August 31st, we are setting a goal of digitizing 50,000 memories.  They can be photos, films, slides, or anything else we do.  The idea is to preserve these memories forever.  When the goal of 50,000 memories is reached, we will make a charitable contribution of $5,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Pretty simple, huh?  Want to get in on the action?

Motivation out of Disaster

If you haven’t ever heard of or seen a TED talk, I beg you, go to their website.  It is an annual conference of thinkers, leaders, and all around do-ers that come together to inspire one another.  They post their talks online for the world to see, and the result is a miraculous body of work available for free to the web “public.”

This morning, TED posted a short video of filmmaker David Hoffman, who spoke about a recent fire that literally wiped out his life’s work and all his possessions.  The talk is just over 4 minutes, and the outlook this man has in light of such a devastating situation is remarkable.

A notable quote, and one we’ve heard many times before, is “film just burns.”  We cannot prevent disasters from happening, but we can prepare for them.  Please, protect your memories.
