At Life Preserver, we’re big fans of Picasa. It’s a great photo management application for PCs that Google owns, and it’s completely free to use. We include it on our discs for PC users (we recommend Mac users use iPhoto, which is even better).
Today, an interesting bit came out of the Macworld Convention: Google is developing a Mac version of Picasa.
This has the potential to stir up a quite a bit of competition in the photo management space on the Mac. As of now, all that really exists is iPhoto, which comes free on new Macs but charges for upgrades; and Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Although iPhoto reigns supreme in the Mac-photo-management realm, it hasn’t been a stagnant product. However, a new entry, especially a free one, into this market means nothing but good things for Mac users.
We’ll keep you up to date.
